Chaise Lounge Recalls Due to Finger Amputation and Crushing Hazards

    2024-06-29 238

Washington, D.C. – The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of 70,000 chaise lounge chairs sold by Frontgate due to finger crushing and amputation hazards. This is the third furniture recall announced by the CPSC in just one week.

The recall involves Cinmar Frontgate Resort Collection Newport Aluminum Chaises (SKU 67333) and Frontgate Resort Collection Newport Teak Chaises (SKU 166218). These chairs were sold at Frontgate stores in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas, and online at Frontgate.com from February 2014 through December 2023 for between $600 and $1,400.

According to the CPSC, the adjustable backrest on these chairs can unexpectedly descend with force when adjusted while seated, posing a risk of serious finger injuries. Cinmar has received reports of three incidents, including two partial finger amputations and one finger-crushing injury requiring surgery.

The recalled chairs were sold in sets of two and come in five different finishes: architectural bronze, champagne silver, cobalt, matte black, and matte white (aluminum) and weathered or natural finishes (teak).
